Art lovers get closer look at Gardner’s collection

BOSTON (AP) – The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is giving patrons a rare, up-close look at some of its finest works.

More than two dozen works by Rembrandt, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rubens and others have been moved from their usual places in the Boston museum’s historic Venetian palazzo-inspired main building into a more contemporary hall.

The works selected for the exhibit, titled “Off the Wall: Gardner and Her Masterpieces,” showcase the museum’s famed Renaissance and Baroque art collection. Many of the artists featured in the exhibit had never had their works shown in the U.S. before Gardner opened her museum, then called Fenway Court, in 1903.

The exhibit also features additional information about the works of art, including how they were acquired by Gardner.

It opened March 10 and runs through Aug. 15.
