Blenko design celebrates W.Va.’s 147th birthday

MILTON, W.Va. (AP) – Blenko Glass has designed a sleek charcoal bottle with satin-finish crystal stopper to celebrate West Virginia’s birthday this year.

The annual celebration is June 19 in Milton. The visitors’ center opens at 8 a.m., and the event features a birthday cake and glass-blowing demonstrations until noon.

This is the 30th year Blenko has designed a collectible glass piece to celebrate the state’s birthday.

Only 147 pieces have been produced for 2010 – one for each year West Virginia has been a state.

The piece also sells for $147. Each is signed by designer Arlon Bayliss and company President Walter Blenko Jr.

Sales are first-come, first-served.
