CASPER, Wyo. (AP) – Casper leaders are considering supplementing the cost of a new Indian statue at the Fort Caspar Museum.

On Tuesday, city councilors will consider whether to allocate nearly $68,000 of public money to buy the bronze sculpture of an Indian brave on horseback chasing a buffalo.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that money would be combined with the $117,000 donation the city received last year to pay for public art with an American Indian theme. Casper’s contribution would be paid for with four years of revenue from the optional 1-cent sales tax.

The statue costs $250,000. The chamber of commerce will raise the rest of the money.
