ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia is set to host an exhibition of works by a Georgia potter.

“Pick of the Kiln: The Work of Michael Simon” is set to run from July 20 through Sept. 8. It features 79 pieces of pottery by Michael Simon.

Simon uses a salt kiln to fire his work. This method creates a varying surface and doesn’t require a separate glazing.

The exhibition will highlight changes in Simon’s work over time. In the mid-1980s, Simon started keeping one pot from every kiln he fired to document the evolution in his work. Some of those pots are included in the exhibition.

Simon was born in and raised in Minnesota, but has lived in the Athens are for many years.
