NEW YORK – The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum today announced that Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, the second exhibition of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative (MAP), will travel to the Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) in São Paulo, Brazil from April to June, 2015 and the Museo Jumex in Mexico City, Mexico in the fall of 2015, following its presentation at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from June 13 to October 1, 2014.
Organized by Pablo León de la Barra, Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America, Under the Same Sun examines the most significant contemporary art practices in Latin America today. The Museu de Arte Moderna is one of the leading modern and contemporary art museums in Brazil, and it has been a pioneer in education in museums in the country. The Museo Jumex is part of the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, which was created to promote the production, analysis and research of contemporary art, and to generate new ways to support art and culture.

The New York presentation of Under the Same Sun features nearly 50 contemporary works by 40 artists and collaborative duos representing 15 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico (United States), Uruguay, and Venezuela. These works have been acquired by the Guggenheim under the auspices of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Purchase Fund.
For each of the presentations at MAM and Museo Jumex, Pablo León de la Barra and the Guggenheim team will collaborate with museum staff to customize the exhibition for the local audiences. In addition, education leaders from each institution will work together to create tailored materials for the public and students, both at the museum and online.
Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today is organized by Pablo León de la Barra, Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America. Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York, and Joan Young, Director of Curatorial Affairs, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, provide curatorial oversight for the entire initiative.
Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative is a collaboration between the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the financial services firm UBS.
