PHILADELPHIA (AP) – An icon of modern art makes a rare appearance this summer at a prestigious Philadelphia art school.

Jasper Johns’ painting Flag will be on view June 26 through Sept. 12 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Flag was the crown jewel in the collection of author Michael Crichton, who purchased it in 1973 from his friend Johns. The artist spent six years on the piece and finished it in 1966.

Crichton exhibited the painting only once, for a 1992 Pop Art survey at London’s Royal Academy of Arts.

Crichton, who created the blockbuster TV series ER and movie Jurassic Park, died in 2008.

Flag sold at auction last month for $28.6 million. The new owners have remained anonymous.
