LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – A Lexington art shop owner is displaying a retrospective of Kentucky painter Robert James Foose.

Tom Clark decided to honor the work of the late painter at his store when he learned of Foose’s death this fall. The retrospective at Clark Art & Antiques features a few of Foose’s paintings from the early 1960s to recent years.

Clark told the Lexington Herald-Leader Foose influenced many artists in central Kentucky.

Foose was raised in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Kentucky in the early 1960s. He returned to UK in 1984 and became one of the area’s most prolific and frequently exhibited artists.

Clark says that since opening the exhibit last month, a number of former students and associates of Foose have come to see it.
