SAN ANTONIO – The McNay Art Museum’s highly-anticipated annual Print Fair is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an all-new virtual format. This year’s event will be held May 1–2 on the McNay’s website. Access is free and open to the public.
“We’ve pivoted to a virtual Print Fair experience out of an abundance of caution and care for our patrons, staff, and dealers from around the country,” said Lyle W Williams, McNay Curator of Prints and Drawings, Curator of Modern Art. “This year’s event may be the biggest one yet because we really are opening the experience up to the world, while still bringing those conversations with dealers and artists to attendees through a video format.”
The webpage will be populated with interviews with print dealers from around the country as they highlight works of art available for sale. Links to each dealer’s website, images of artwork, and a description of their unique offerings will give guests a roadmap to exploring the thousands of prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs for sale.
Additional highlights of the fair include a step-by-step Tortilla Press and Foam Print printmaking activity, and interviews with San Antonio printmakers Ethel Shipton and Humberto Saenz. The McNay is also giving a behind-the-scenes look inside the Museum’s Print Room with Williams as he discuss printmaking, print history, tips for collecting, and shows some of the print treasures from the McNay’s Permanent Collection.

The McNay Art Museum engages a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of the visual arts. Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’s first modern art museum when it opened in 1954. Today, 200,000 visitors a year enjoy works by modern masters including Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The 25 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Willie Cole, Robert Indiana, Luis A. Jiménez Jr., Alejandro Martín, George Rickey, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, Tom Wesselmann, and more.
