FREDERICK, Md. (ACNI) – On Tuesday, Mosby & Co. incurred flooding to its multilevel auction venue in Frederick. As a result, ownership said, the building will be closed to the public until further notice.

According to Mosby & Co.’s founder and owner, Keith Spurgeon, the flooding occurred after a wall collapsed on the cofferdam located across the road.

“We ended up with about eighteen to twenty-four inches of water inside our building. Fortunately the water levels dropped fairly quickly, and damage seems to be relatively minor,” Spurgeon said.

“The vast majority of our auction inventory was upstairs, on tables or in showcases, so it was not affected,” Spurgeon continued. “However, we will be mostly closed for the next couple of weeks for cleanup and damage assessment… We are experiencing trouble with phone lines, but we do have some computer access.”

Mosby & Co. is not the only business that was impacted by the flooding. Other tenants in the complex located at 5714 Industry Lane were affected, as well, Spurgeon said.

“We will be assessing just who is, or was, responsible for maintenance of the failed dam.”

Mosby & Co.’s auctions feature a broad variety of antiques but are particularly well known for their selections of antique toys and advertising, pop culture collectibles, and historical and military antiques. Spurgeon said Mosby & Co.’s next auction, slated for November 21st, will take place as scheduled. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
