DALLAS – Heritage Auctions has announced in a press release that its 2016 online auction sales totaled $348,107,079, “far outpacing all other auction houses in online sales.”

The 2016 results mark a $4 million increase over the firm’s 2015 online sales and represent 40 percent of last year’s total Heritage sales of $850 million.

“Heritage continues to see customers purchase seven-figure works of art and collectibles through the Internet and its proprietary software, HALive!,” said Jim Halperin, Co-Founder of Heritage Auctions. “No other auction house is doing this much business online.”

Growth is especially apparent in the firm’s Sports department, where most sales took place online, boosting the department’s annual sales to $57.4 million in 2016. Likewise, sales of fine art, comics and comic art drew significant bidder participation online as the number of clientele exceeded 1 million online registered bidder-members.

Halperin added that sales hosted online preclude the possibility of “chandelier bidding,” and in so doing, continue to preserve Heritage’s mission of providing bidders with unimpeachable transparency. “We will continue to invest in new ways to make it easier and easier to buy online from Heritage,” Halperin said.

In addition to bidding through Heritage’s own HALive! platform, buyers the world over also had the option in 2016 of bidding in selected Heritage sales through www.LiveAuctioneers.com. Last year 56 auctions were conducted simultaneously through LiveAuctioneers and Heritage. The next auction of this type, a 542-lot offering of fine and decorative art and estate antiques, will take place on Feb. 25.
