BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) – A ticket to the 1867 convention in Philadelphia that institutionalized racial segregation in professional baseball has sold for $7,000 in Maine.

The convention ticket, along with an 1870 Philadelphia Athletics season ticket and a painting of Cy Young in a Boston uniform, were sold last week by Saco River Auction Co. in Biddeford.

Manager and Auctioneer Troy Thibodeau said the Cy Young painting fetched $8,000 and the Philadelphia Athletics season ticket brought $6,000. But he says a 1933 Babe Ruth baseball card topped them all, with a winning bid of $13,000.

Saco River is making a name for old baseball items. Last year, a collector from Newburyport, Mass., paid $92,000 at a Saco River auction for an 1865 baseball card depicting the Brooklyn Atlantics amateur baseball club.
