Marvel superheroes show opens at Seattle’s MoPOP museum

SEATTLE (AP) – Marvel superheroes are gathering in Seattle. The Museum of Pop Culture, MoPOP, is opening an exhibit exploring eight decades of heroes created by Marvel Entertainment.

The “Universe of Super Heroes” show, which opened on Saturday, explores the nexus between the comic book pages, the television shows and the highly successful movies. It is the largest exhibition every staged at MoPOP.

The exhibition invites guests to journey through Marvel’s 80-year history from inception to modern day with comics, films, artifacts, and interactives. Immersive set pieces place guests into classic comic book scenescapes like Tony Stark’s lab, giving them a first-person view of the superhero’s world, while a thrilling soundscape by composers Lorne Balfe and Hans Zimmer completes the scene.

Among the more than 300 items on display are costumes and props from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies including Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming and others. Curators also obtained rare comics and artwork from private collectors.

The show’s run ends in January, 2019.
