SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The New York Yankees pinstripe flannel jersey that Mickey Mantle wore during the 1954 season sold for $575,912 at auction Dec. 19. The jersey, which Mantle also wore during the Yankees’ three home games of the 1953 World Series, was in pristine condition and autographed on the front in black marker.
The jersey (above) was the highlight of Grey Flannel Auctions’ online and phone auction that closed Wednesday. In all-original condition, the No. 7 jersey was graded A10 by Dave Grob of MEARS, who attributed its use to the ’53 World Series in which Mantle hit two home runs including a grand slam. The Yankees bested the Brooklyn Dodgers 4 games to 2 in that Fall Classic.

“The Mick” prominently signed the front of the jersey in black marker. His name also appears stitched into the fabric below the manufacturer’s cloth tag along with the ’54 date.
Mantle (1931-1995) played 18 seasons for the New York Yankees, hitting 536 home runs with a .298 batting average.
