Man gets life sentence in death of Mich. antiques dealer

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) – A man convicted in the robbery and slaying of a 74-year-old Kalamazoo antiques dealer has been sentenced to the mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole.

MLive.com reports 21-year-old Antonio Livingston on Monday expressed sympathy to the family of Robert Medema and says he didn’t feel responsible for the death.

A Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury earlier found Livingston guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion and assault with intent to rob.

Prosecutors say Livingston was present when John Aguilar beat Medema to death in August in his home.

Livingston testified he thought he and Aguilar were going to pick up items for a garage sale. He said Aguilar told him to go through a window into Medema’s house.

Aguilar is scheduled to stand trial April 30.
