DEKALB, Ill. (AP) – Hundreds of seats are available for purchase from the historic Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb.

The seats are for sale through Saturday. The Daily Chronicle reports that on Tuesday, people lined up outside the theater waiting to buy the seats. The 1,400 seats are for sale to make way for new seats to be installed this summer.

The seats being sold are the ones that were in place when the theater opened in 1929.

The restored Art Deco movie palace is on the National Register of Historic Places.

People buying the seats said they were looking for a souvenir. Ray Zuberbier of Burlington, Ill., and his wife went to a movie at the theater for their first date 44 years ago. He says they now watch their granddaughter perform at the theater.

Zuberbier says he plans to reupholster the chairs, adding it’s neat to have them as memorabilia.
