Virginia man gets father’s WWII dog tag back

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) – A Fredericksburg man says he has his father’s World War II dog tag back through the generosity of an Australian memorabilia collector.

George Carter Jr. tells the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star his late father lost the identification tag at Guadalcanal in the Pacific during the war. Carter says he had very little that belonged to his dad, so the identification tag is at the top of his list.

Australian collector Clinton Kempnich returned the tag after finding it among a box full of items from a friend who had been a diver in the South Pacific. Kempnich ended up reacher Carter through the Free Lance-Star.
