ARDMORE, Pa. (AP) – A $300,000 makeover is planned for the grounds of the suburban Philadelphia property which is losing a world-renowned art collection that’s being relocated to a downtown museum.

Barnes Foundation president Derek Gillman told attendees of a community day at the Merion property that the foundation is committed to maintaining the grounds of the estate of the late Albert Barnes.

The Barnes art collection that includes 181 Renoirs, 69 Cezannes, 60 Matisses and 44 Picassos is heading to a new museum on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Gillman called the 12-acre arboretum one of the greatest on the East Coast during Sunday’s event.

The new museum is scheduled to open next year.
