Buffalo’s Albright-Knox gallery gets $42.5M gift, new name
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Buffalo’s Albright-Knox Art Gallery has announced a big gift and a name change. Gallery officials on Friday announced what they say is the largest-ever private donation to a Buffalo cultural institution – $42.5 million. It comes from financial executive Jeffrey Gundlach and will help fund an expansion of the gallery.
In recognition, the museum’s board has voted to change the name to the Buffalo Albright-Knox-Gundlach Art Museum, or Buffalo AKG Art Museum for short.
Gundlach, the chief executive and founder of investment firm DoubleLine Capital, is also an art collector who was born in western New York and says he learned about art by going to the Buffalo gallery with his family.
New York state is expected to give $15 million toward the expansion.
