NEW YORK – On Wednesday and Thursday, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum celebrated the 2013 Guggenheim International Gala honoring artists James Turrell, whose exhibition including the rotunda installation Aten Reign was featured at the museum from June 21 through Sept. 25, and Christopher Wool, whose retrospective opened on Oct. 25 and remains on view through Jan. 22.

Over $2.8 million was raised in support of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The 2013 Guggenheim International Gala was made possible by Dior.

The gala benefit auction during the dinner Thursday featured a sale of three artworks, by William Eggleston, On Kawara and James Turrell, during the dinner event. Proceeds benefit the museum’s general operating fund, and help to make possible the Guggenheim’s innovative educational programs as well as the care, study and exhibition of its unparalleled collections of modern and contemporary works of art.

On Wednesday the 2013 Guggenheim International Gala Pre-Party, hosted by the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council and made possible by Dior, featured a special musical performance by electronic music ambassador / DJ Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman).
