HANCOCK, Mass. (AP) – The Hancock Shaker Village living-history museum in the Berkshires has put its search for a new director on hold so it can complete an extensive restructuring to stabilize finances.
Mary Rentz, vice chairwoman of the board of trustees, says interim Director Peter Hansen is leading the way by looking for new revenue streams and restructuring staffing.
Officials have a search firm picked, but a timeline for resumption of the process has yet to be determined. The former CEO left earlier this year for a new post.
Rentz tells The Berkshire Eagle that although the museum in Hancock has been running budget deficits it is not in severe financial trouble. She says the museum has just $300,000 in mortgage debt.
The museum has a $2 million annual budget.
