Indianapolis museum installing shade sails along canal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A museum is installing a $400,000 structure along a canal in downtown Indianapolis to attract visitors to its outdoor programming this summer.

The Indianapolis Star reports four 60-by-30-foot translucent, triangle-shaped sails meant to provide partial shade are set to debut at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art on June 20.

The structure will be located about the Christel DeHaan Family Terrace, which faces north toward the canal along the White River.

Museum officials ultimately hope the structure will spur more activity on the canal. The project is funded by the Efroymson Family Fund, the Indianapolis Foundation and the Steve Cagle Family.
