MILWAUKEE (AP) – The estate of a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright has gifted 179 works by self-taught artists to the Milwaukee Art Museum.

The museum had an exhibition of self-taught art last year, after collector Antony Petullo gifted it 300 of his works.

The gift helps solidify the museum as a leading institution in North America for such work.

The works were collected by Lanford Wilson, who wrote “Burn This!,” “Talley’s Folly” and “Fifth of July.” He died in 2011.

An exhibition is planned in the near future.
