Sixth Floor Museum to commemorate 1963 JFK death

DALLAS (AP) – A Dallas museum that chronicles the 1963 assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy is planning a commemoration on the 50th anniversary of his death.

The Sixth Floor Museum is trying to raise $2.2 million to complete restoration of Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy’s motorcade was when he was shot. City funds have been used for some upgrades.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that the city has honored Kennedy family wishes and not sponsored official events to mark the Nov. 22, 1963 killing.

The museum’s executive director, Nicola Longford, says the 2013 commemoration may simply be a moment of silence.

The museum is in the former Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of shooting Kennedy from a window on the sixth floor.
