ATLANTA – On May 21, Hindman will present its spring Atlanta Collections auction which blooms with artwork, furniture, and decorative objects from important regional collections and estates—and some sales will benefit area non-profits. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The majority of the auction is comprised of property from several notable Georgia collections, many of which are being sold to benefit local charities. Early landscape and portrait paintings from the Estate of Stewart O. Cunningham will be sold to benefit Historic Macon Foundation’s Lanier Education Endowment Fund while artwork and sculpture from the Estate of Anne B. Eldridge will be sold to benefit The Booth Museum of Western Art and The Salvation Army.

One of the standout collections in the sale is the collection of Noel and Kathryn Dickinson Wadsworth of Atlanta. The Wadsworths were founders of the museum at Auburn University, and Time magazine featured their collection in the 1980s. The couple collected mostly American art from the late 19th and early 20th century with a focus on Ashcan school artists. Important American artists represented in the Atlanta sale include Everett Shinn, Reginald Marsh, Mary Cassatt, Lawton Parker, Arthur Davies, Agnes Richmond, and James Abbott McNeill Whistler.

Also of note in the auction lineup is an undated painting by French artist Edmond-Louis Dupain, dubbed La Plage a Saint-Malo. Estimated at $3,000-$5,000, it comes from the collection of David S. Ramus of Atlanta.

The Atlanta Collections auction is sure to appeal to collectors with a range of interests. Western art collectors will be drawn to prints by known southwestern artists from the estate of Sandra Lee Vosburgh of Atlanta. Contemporary art lovers will find works bestowed by philanthropist and art collector Vera List of New York to Atlanta family members, Mark and Jane Cohen. Antique furniture and British hunt and sporting art may be found in the Collection of Jane and Terry Bradshaw of Alpharetta. All three of these collections are also represented through other salerooms in May.
