Carl Smith Living Estate Absolute Auction
Kennedy's Auction Service is pleased to announce our June 2 auction of one of Memphis, Tennessee, Central Garden District's finest estates. The Smith Family has downsized and chose to sell at absolute auction the many fine antiques that they have cherished for so many years. Many of the items were purchased originally from an auction conducted by Col. Sam Plough (brother of Abe Plough) in October of 1950. Part of the items in that auction had descended from John T. Frost (Owner of The American Biscuit Co.), who originally built the Old Barrett Home at the corner of Vance and Orleans. The auction was held for Mr. Hosmer Barrett, who was the sole surviving member of the family. Mr. Barrett was a retired Memphis financier and partner in E. F. Hutton & Co., New York, NY.
The auction will include some of the finest R.J. Horner carved mahogany furniture ever made in America. Including one of the best highly carved examples of R.J. Horner's 9' 10.5" H. Grandfather clock in original finish with J.J. Elliott 9 Tube Movement. Several rare Japanese and Chinese antiques will be sold including a 19th Early 20th C. Xu Yunlin Dehua Guanyin Blanc De Chine Figure, Palatial Size Meiji Period Japanese Champleve Dragon Vase, 61.25" H., Etc. Another auction highlight would have to be the Tiffany Studios, New York, Tulip Lamp Shade 16" Diameter. Perhaps the most scarce and unusual item in the auction is a Circa 1811 Moravian Pottery Flask in the form of a Lady, 6" H.
This auction is filled with Art, Bronze and Marble Sculptures, Fine Furniture and Decorations, Etc.
