80 lots of books, jewelry, porcelain, glass and other objects are being sold on behalf of the Cooch Family, of Cooch’s Bridge, Pencader Hundred, Delaware. The items being auctioned are the personal property of members of the Cooch family and come from the family home at Cooch's Bridge. The home and acreage around it, which had been in the Cooch family since 1746, were sold to the State of Delaware last May in connection with the State's plans to preserve the home and the site of the Battle of Cooch's Bridge, the only Revolutionary War battle in Delaware".
A few highlights of 40 lots of books include: Lot 17684; "Laws of the Government of New-Castle, Kent, and Sussex, upon Delaware" (Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin 1752), estimated at $2,000 to $4,000, Lot 17873; James Burgh, "Political Disquisitions; Or, An Enquiry into public errors, defects, and abuses" (Philadelphia, R. Bell and W. Woodhouse 1775); 3 vols; First American Edition of a treatise that influenced the founding fathers by providing statistics and guidelines for establishing a free country. Lot 17602; Brevet Captain J.C. Fremont, "Report of the Exploring Expedition to the Rocky Mountains in the year 1842, and to Oregon and North California in the years 1843-44." With all 4 maps & 22 plates, including the large folding map from the rear cover pocket. This large map is quite rare, and greatly increases the value of this item. Lot 17703; Philip de Segur, "History of the Expedition to Russia, Undertaken by the Emperor Napoleon, in the Year 1812". A number of box lots of general reference, legal, bindings, and other material is also being offered. There is a small offering of gold jewelry including a 14K YG DAR Vice President General ribbon with 12 pins on it. All items being sold on behalf of the Cooch Family are so indocated in the description.
