Gracious Living: The Collection From a Home Designed by Kevin McNamara, East Hampton, NY Designer Kevin McNamara told Architectural Digest in 1988 that he ?wanted a French house? when describing the weekend home he created in East Hampton, NY, and while some thought it rather elaborate for a beach residence, its style has withstood the test of time. We are pleased to be offering the contents of this McNamara-designed house on behalf of its current owner who purchased it in 2000. McNamara?s passion for architecture and interior design can be seen in his early work at McMillen and Co., and during his tenure at Parish Hadley where he was influenced by Albert Hadley?s use of color and fabric. The house McNamara designed for himself takes its inspiration from the Orangerie at Chateau de Champs-Sur-Marne on the outskirts of Paris, incorporating its pepper pot roofs and the extensive use of limestone on the exterior as a backdrop to the stunning interiors that remain largely untouched since their original installation. Deceptively small from the outside, the interior of the house is grand, with a commanding vaulted foyer at the entrance and tall French doors opening onto a living room with emerald green lacquered walls and high ceilings reminiscent of early 18th century neoclassical design. The main rooms of the house are inspired by French 18th century decoration and include a fine, oversized Régence mirror, French provincial furniture and a collection of Chinese and European porcelain that mingle ?formal? with ?informal? quite comfortably throughout the house.
