Fine and Rare Wines

In the Bordeaux wine region in 1961, late Spring frosts took a heavy toll resulting in a greatly reduced harvest, but a hot summer produced grapes which were wonderfully concentrated and the wines became the stuff of legend - none more so than Chateau Latour. A rare, previously unopened case of this extraordinary wine leads Bonhams Fine Wine sale in London on Thursday 9 December. It is estimated at 30,000-40,000. Bonhams Senior International Director of Wine Richard Harvey M.W. said: "Chateau Latour 1961 attracted the plaudits of wine connoisseurs from the very beginning - it was, for example, one of Michael Broadbent's rare six star wines. It rightly continues to enjoy a stellar reputation and is much sought after. Unopened cases are now extremely scarce."
