European Furniture, Decorations and Fine Art
With a focus on the long and rich history of European decorative arts, this sale offers fine examples of furniture, porcelain, carpets and decorations from France, Scandinavia, The Netherlands and the Middle East. An array of French 18th century furniture is highlighted by a pair of Louis XV Fauteuils by Jean-Baptiste Sene, a Directoire desk chair by Jean-Antoine Brun, and a large suite of Louis XVI seat furniture by Jean-Baptiste Boulard. Representing the Continent, highlights include a large Dutch Baroque Kass, and an unusual Dutch Colonial Zebrawood chest of drawers. Also of interest is a very fine Swedish Neoclassical mirror, complemented by a fine Régence example. Highlighting the textile category is a large Persian Tabriz, several Turkish Oushaks of vibrant colors, and an early Spanish Cuenca carpet along with an Aubusson chinoiserie tapestry. Complementing the furniture is a plethora of decorations including a fine pair of Swedish Porphry Urns, a rare pair of Louis XVI Style Ormolu-Mounted Scagliola Urns with identical copies in the Wrightsman Collection, along with French ormolu-mounted Chinese porcelains and exceptional array of French ormolu clocks from the mid-18th century to the later 19th century including a rare lion-formed clock and an elephant example. Rounding out the sale is a large selection of Meissen and porcelain by other makers, silkwork pictures, and paintings and works on paper by European artists from the 18th and 19th centuries.
