FISHING TACKLE & SPORTSMEN AUCTION

One of the most important angling auctions in decades, the spring sale will include historic lures and their exceptionally rare "picture" boxes. These highly sought boxes, the majority dating from the late 1800's into the early 1900's, are especially desirable as they feature a graphic illustration of the lure. The collections offered in this auction are also unusual as many of the picture boxes are in excellent condition, a rare designation for lure boxes of this age.
Included in the first day of the auction, which will be held online and attended by a live audience, will be an extremely rare c1859 Haskell Minnow, made by Riley Haskell of Painesville, Ohio. The Haskell Minnow is believed to be the most coveted American lure ever made.
Also featured in this auction are comprehensive collections of early Miller's Reversible Minnows, several in their very rare boxes, and introductory black Shakespeare boxes housing the correct baits, as well as many other obscure short-production lures. Interspersed throughout the first 730 lots will be the lure collection of Sheridan Jones. Referred to as "America's pioneering outdoor writer", Sheridan Jones (1881-1958) was certainly one of the most respected and prolific angling writers of his era. Jones, where noted, owned a number of the lures offered in this auction - many were given to the esteemed author for his professional opinion, others as gifts by lure makers vying for his favor. Stated best by author Joseph Hilko in his 2010 book The Life and Legend of Sheridan R. Jones: "Jones' legacy as an educator, naturalist, professional writer & world-class angler is worthy of remembrance today" There will also be desirable reels & exceptional bamboo rods, such as an 8' Lyle Dickerson Model 8014, 7' Walt Carpenter "Special Project" Payne Fly Rod, Darrell Whitehead Custom Fly Rod Set, 8' 3" Sweetgrass 5-Sided Fly Rod, 7' 5" Mario Wojnicki Penta Fly Rod, 7 1/2' Leonard Pre-Fire Fairy Catskill, most in unused condition
