African Bobo Fing Harvest Mask. Despite minor wood loss due to age and use the mask remains in overall good condition. In Burkina Faso these masks are used during purification ceremonies at the end of the dry season and before harvest, believed to represent protective spirits and forces of fertility, fecundity, and growth. Often adorned with animal and spirit symbols such as the warthog, rooster, toucan, fish, antelope, serpent, and hawk, these masks are worn during important events like new crop celebrations, initiations and other traditional ceremonies.
