Paul Belloni Du Chaillu was a French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist. He became famous in the 1860s as the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas, and later the Pygmy people of central Africa. He later researched the prehistory of Scandinavia. “Journey to Ashango-Land” is a classic African adventures work, formed from his time as King of the Apingi Tribe in 1865.



This rare 1st edition of “Journey to Ashango-Land” includes 24 fine illustrations consisting of maps, animals, indigenous people, and landscapes. This work is especially important for Chaillus confirmation of his discovery of the gorilla!
