Duysend, 379+ [5] pp. Excellent condition; original vellum binding, red margins, manuscript title in large characters on the spine, and no knots French natural historian Gilles's historical work on the Bosphorus (1490–1555). Reference: Willems 366. One of the first books that describe Constantinople and the Thracian Bosphorus is Gilles' De Bosporo Thracio. For early travelers, it offered trustworthy and legitimate sources of information. In 1547, Gilles went to the Porte with d'Aramon's embassy, where he was tasked with looking for Greek manuscripts and artifacts on Francis I's behalf. He met André Thevet while traveling, and the two of them explored Asia Minor together.
