Description
late 19th century, 203 x 154 cm, North West Anatolia

This red-ground village rug is from the surroundings of Ezine, a region about 50 kilometres south of Canakkale, the provincial capital. The field design of two huge white octagons enclosing a format-filling large eight-pointed star device with blue arms and a red octagon in the centre, is already encountered in 15th century Anatolian carpets. The basic concept has remained unchanged throughout the centuries.

Good condition, original selvedges and long kilim finishes.
