Ladik Prayer Rug
Ladik Prayer Rug
Item Details
Description
ca. 1800, 172 x 114 cm, Central Anatolia

This early Ladik prayer rug displays a plain red field and three small arches at the upper end whose tops are crowned with double hooks. Two large yellow bowls are seen in the blue area above them. Below the mihrab field, another red-ground panel shows the obligatory tulips and four arches. The main border design of large rosettes and diagonal carnations is also encountered in far older Ladik rugs.

Signs of age and wear, both end finishes repiled, replaced selvedges.
