A splendid Saryk Turkmen door rug, finely woven from velvety pile wool with small details in colourful silk and white cotton. These densely patterned Saryk ensis with minutely drawn designs were made in Turkmen workshops as of 1880 for export to the Tsarist Empire. After the subjugation of the Central Asian nomadic tribes, a great interest in the art of their weaving developed in parts of the Russian society.
Damage to the upper finish in places, signs of wear in the lower kilim finish. Good overall condition.
