This is a beautiful and very unusual Staffordshire figurine.
This is really a very rare and unusual example of Staffordshire pottery figure
It is a figure of Tam O'Shanter and his friend Souter Johnnie, based on a poem by Robert Burns.
The two men are seated next to a barrel, Tam holding a cup and Souter a pitcher.
The figure is with right gilt decoration. On the base is written 'TAM O SHANTER & SOOTER JOHNNY'.
A similar piece is shown on 976, page 271, Schiffer's 'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding.
The figure has many fine hand painted details including attractive facial features, rich and colorful detail
It stands 13" tall and it is 19 3/4" by 4" at the base.
The figure is in good condition.
There could be crazing that is normal for those figurines, as well as, some minimal paint loss.
There are some manufacturing defects
