Description
RIFLE. Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 35". Half stock percussion rifle mfg. by Great Western Gun Works in Pittsburg, PA. Lockplate markings and engraving are indistinct, save for "PENNSYL" at the center of the plate. Top flat of the heavy octagonal bbl. exhibits Great Western Gun Works' mfg. information, which is mostly illegible. Replacement contemporary half stock with brass buttplate, trigger guard, patchbox, and ramrod ferrules, with a brass inlay present on the cheek rest. "U" rear sight with brass blade front sight. Percussion bolster is a contemporary replacement. CONDITION: metal components exhibit a deep brown and gray exterior, with pitting present. Brass components exhibit a light mellow patina. Hammer does not lock in the rearward position. Stock exhibits some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise is good overall. (01-25091/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
