Description
A brown leather shoulder bag, handmade for The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian.
The bag features an asymmetrical flap, two interior pouches, and a shoulder strap, with an inscription, handwritten in green ink, that reads: "If lost, please return to John Sebastian 440 Zena Rd. Woodstock, N.Y. 12498, 912-674-9130." Various ink stains, presumably from tie-dye ink, are present.
According to Sebastian, the bag was made in 1965 by Chicago-based leather workers, John and Melody Brown, who lived with him briefly at his Sag Harbor home. The inscription was written later by Sebastian, in c. late 1970s.
