Item Details
Description
This glass bead, measuring 1.7 x 1.5 cm, features the classic 'evil eye' design that originated in the Eastern Mediterranean, specifically during the period spanning the 1st century BCE to the 1st century CE. The bead's layered construction of concentric circles in white, red, and central blue is typical of mosaic glasswork of the time, crafted to ward off evil. Such beads were believed to protect the wearer from malevolent gazes and were popular amulets in many ancient cultures. Its well-preserved colors and form make it a fascinating example of ancient glassmaking skill and superstition.
