Item Details
Description
American,Ca. 1900 - 1905
William Cross was a British born taxidermist and naturalist who settled in Glenwood, CO in the late 1800's. His bird dioramas won a gold medal at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis and are in numerous museum collections around the world. This is an exotic hummingbird diorama containing 3 complete hummingbirds with feathers generally in very good condition and retaining bright iridescence. The birds are mounted in flying position in the original, hand painted, bow-back case with original glass and wood frame. The back is covered with treated canvas and the original "William Cross" paper label is glued to that.
