Description
A Gilded Copper Mask Lambayeque culture, North Coast Peru, c. 700-900 AD Copper sheet with gilding, with the unusual feature of metal cups over eye balls, with a long thin rod protruding from eyes, each with a metal ball halfway. The nose raised and with curling thin metal strips emanating from the nostrils each with a bell-shaped metal dangle. The copper and gilding in contrasting sections on the face; gold emphasizing the almond-shaped eyes, mouth, ears, and sides of the forehead. In very good condition, appropriate for its age, origin, and mediums. Professionally mounted and enclosed in an acrylic box.
