Description
A Moche Sleeve Band Peru, c. 200-500 AD Tapestry woven camelid fibers and cotton in many colors: blue-green, tan, gold, and white against a deep red, all still vivid. Depicts a mythological composite creature: a standing human with a large centipede emerging from its back. The figure is holding a ceremonial staff with what appears to be two trophy heads in rectilinear form. A band of triangles along the lower border and the sides with a row of diamonds. Mounted in a plexiglass box.
