Description
A Mumuye Figure Benue River Valley, Nigeria, c. late 19th to early 20th century Wood blackened all over and highlighted with natural earth pigments in white and dark red. Classic form with notched legs, bent arms curving in with hands nearly meeting at waist, narrow torso, rounded shoulders. The face divided down middle into two planes, circular eyes, notched mouth, ear flaps, and a crest at top of head. In very good condition appropriate for age, origin, and mediums. Nicks, chips, and a cut on the back original to the piece. Dusty patina, erosion on bottom of feet from contact with earth. Mounted to a steel base.
