Item Details
Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi Pueblo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A handmade pot in the Sikyatki Revival style, swelling upward to a thick rim, the exterior painted with geometric motifs in umber and black. While highly abstract, the painted decoration has a feathered tip like a bird tail that terminates in a spiral with a circle - spirals represent continuation and journeys. The Sikyatki Revival style emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, inspired by prehistoric pottery found at the archaeological site of Sikyatki, located on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 7" H (16.5 cm x 17.8 cm)
