The collection was owned previously by A.D. Cottet, Hotel de Ville. Nicolas Joseph Kellin was a French painter in watercolours. He was a pupil of Rocqueplan and of Bonington , and he exhibited landscapes and views of old buildings at the Salon from 1833 to 1842. The Louvre preserves two of his watercolors representing views of Eu in Normandy (Inv. 35283 and 35284). Kellin executed many picturesque views of Normandy and other regions of France.
