Mongolian Bodhisattva is cast out of an alloy that is aluminum-like. My instincts tell me that in this particular case, this piece may be made out of the remains of an early airplane crash (Perhaps 60 to 80 years old?). I've encountered 4 of these materials over the past 20 years-all from Mongolia, and all of slightly different aluminum alloys. It is also possible that as they were under Soviet domination that the materials came from industrial work sites, and they worked with whatever materials they could get their nads on. As with many Mongolian Buddhas, the casting is not as refined as some of its counterparts from other countries, but the statue manages to convey a great deal of finesse, sophistication, and sensitivity. 4.25"
