Chinese Jade, Ceramics, and Works of Art
Session two of the May Arts of Asia auction presents a selection of our finest pieces of Chinese jade, ceramics, and works of art. The jade offerings in this session range from the diminutive to the substantial - from intricate handheld toggles and plaques to larger carved figures and ornaments, including a notable double-peach carving with impressive dimensions. Highlights of the ceramics section of this session include a pair of yellow-ground chrysanthemum jars, a style favored by the Empress Dowager Cixi, and a refined Yongzheng sachet-form miniature vase with a compelling dichotomy of glaze styles. The session concludes with numerous decorative works, most notably a bronze arrow vase, used in the famed pitch-pot game, and a three-drawer Huanghuali cabinet of rare construction.
