The first sale fully assembled by Vice President and new department head Sebastian Clarke, Freeman's September 20th sale of Fine English & Continental Furniture & Decorative arts contains a diverse, yet selective offering from a broad range of consignors covering many collecting fields. The top lot of the day is expected to be an extremely fine example of 19th century Italian romantic sculpture, "The Abduction of Psyche," by Lapini, circa 1900, which carries a pre-sale estimate of $100,000-150,000. The sale's opening section of fine English furniture will include a George II walnut chest-on-chest from the mid-18th century, which is estimated at $12,000-18,000, as well as several good examples of George III mahogany case furniture including reasonably-estimated bookcases and linen presses.Also featured in the morning session will be a stellar selection of English silver, ranging in period from George II to Edwardian, including a Regency sterling silver soup tureen by John Houle of London, 1811, weighing 144 ounces and estimated at $8,000-12,000.
