A painter from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, he was a master of Chinese painting. In his early years, he adopted the calligraphy method of Huang Tingjian. Flowers and birds are mainly freehand brushwork in ink, with exaggerated and strange images. The brushwork is condensed and solemn, and the style is majestic and timeless. Dong Qichang, a master of landscape painting, uses concise brushwork, a sense of tranquility, and a sense of sparseness.
